Week in Review 19/05/11

In Math we reviewed ratio and proportion I found ratio easiar than proportion then I made a board game about times tables and other math questions. In Music I got a solo part in the song called "We Will rock you" and we learnt another song called "We are the champions", In English we carried on with our bord games mine was about diary of a wimpy kid and its author, In PE we separated into three groups and did activities and in swimming our teachers told us what group we were in and last but not least 10 % time I started a new topic called "stop animation" I am enjoying it alot more than my last topic witch was a flip book.

The Egyptian Revolution by Year 6WL

Below you will find reflections by the pupils of how the Egyptian Revolution affected them, and how they felt about the changes taking place in their lives and the lives of those around them. Thankfully, we were able to have our lessons online using the website Vyew.com. I hope you find the reflections as thought provoking as we have.

Friday night, we got stuck out in a suburb of Cairo. We had to sleep at a friend’s house because there was a curfew. I learned that there were protests going on against the President. The President had blocked the roads, cut off phone lines and cut off the Internet. Today we were packing just in case we had to leave Egypt. We got a call saying we were going to England. It ended up that we would just go to a resort outside the city.

The first night back home was a bit scary. I could hear gun shots from the balcony and I could see tanks at the gas station. I was really scared because we live very close to a prison. When I heard the local mall had been broken into and burned I thought about my favorite shop Claire’s and it was tragic. Its kind of strange because earlier in school my friends and I were talking about what we would do if something happened to Claire’s and how sad that would be. As I was going to bed this night, I felt kind of scared and like we should not be here. Its weird that the year we chose to come here is the year that this had to happen.

Next, we got a call to be ready at the drop of a hat. My dad said we are going to England. That freaked me out because it was just so sudden. Some of the stuff I liked I could not take which made me really sad. I was especially worried about my cats. I was relieved when our landlord offered to look after them while we were away.

When another call came saying that we could not go to England and instead would go to another location outside the city, I was disappointed because I hoped to see my grandma. The next morning, we got on a bus. It was a long drive and I saw lots of tanks and soldiers along the way.

As soon as I saw where we would be staying, I was relieved and excited. There was a big white water slide that was so much fun, but we had to buy a tube. Our room had three different sections, my parents room, a lounge and a room for my brother and me.

During our stay, we went on a snorkeling cruise and my parents and brother saw a Napolean fish, a sting ray and a moray eel. I got to hold a puffer fish and I threw the fish that the boat people caught back in to the sea. At the last Island, I snorkeled around and found starfish and shells with living things inside.

After the cruise we ate dinner and went up to play ping pong and pool. I’m getting better at ping pong but I am still learning how to use the stick for pool. Later I went to bed watching CSI. I was so freaked out by this show that I couldn’t even get out of bed to turn off the TV.

Eventually we got told that we would go home on the bus the next day or the day following. We chose to go home on the last bus. Finally, we arrived home where my cats were waiting for me on the porch. Carrying back all of those bags was worth it when I saw the cats. Asia literally hugged me and wouldn’t let go. I really love them and I’m happy to be home.

Week in Review for 12/05/11

This week we have concentrated on creativity in more than one task. In English we were concerned books and authors and that is why we made our own board games about our favourite books and authors. In Inquiry, we have started a new topic and we have started making drawings so that we learn how to draw in our comics, the way we are drawing is called Manga and it was created by some japanese artists that have then spread it to the media to make cartoons and many other things. This is to show how we will decide what the right thing to do is when we need to make difficult decisions as we get older. As for Math we have been planning a trip with a friend, it is not that easy once you know that you only have 10,000 GBP
and you spend them in hotel rooms and flights, the hard part is that you have to calculate the distance between the first country to the other country and the trip has to be in 9 different countries in 9 different cities. Then we had to change our money and change our distances from km to meters.

Thanks Z!

Week in Review:

This week was a really exciting week. Because it is EASTER!! We did an Egg hunt and egg decoration. We all had one buddy from year 2 and we went to find the eggs. Everyone tried to find the golden egg but the golden egg went to one of the Year 5s and their buddy. It was inside the a juice box. So when it was over, we went to our own class room and we each got one egg to decorate as best as we could. Some puplils made a buddy, a scuba diver, a man holding a dumbell, and a men who had a worm in their head. The secondary art teacher had to pick one of the best eggs in each year group. The winner in Year 6 was K who made a man holding a dumbell. The whole time was really fun.

In math, we made 3d shapes using nets. We had to cut the out lines and stick them nicely. It was very fun and we learned about nets and a bit about surface area.

In 10% time, many people presented their first 10% time projects. NT presented her flipbook animation, P presented his poster about lions.

Everyone is excited about the easter holiday because we have 2 weeks holiday. I hope they enjoy it.

Thanks S!

Week in Review for 31/03/11

Yesterday we had Trade Day and it was very fun. My partner was KH and we were trying our best to keep our money but in the last few minutes, Mexico came to sell us a lot of things and we were trying our best to keep the amount of money that we were going to pay very low because we were running out of money too quickly. There were lots of other countries around us. Some of the countries were very unlucky because they were given a crisis and when you get a crisis, you can't trade for 15 minutes. Fortunatly KH and I never got a crisis. Our country was Libya.

In PE we have something called PE Sport Module and we are doing the sport football for the next 5 weeks and we have a tournamenet which i think is going to be very fun. After the tournament, we have a party.

In our Football ECA, we have another tournament taking place next week on Tuesday. I am very excited for the tournament. We will play against another local school and we will visit them in their school so hopefully we will win.

Thanks NS!

Our collection of Prezis

Over the past few months our class has been experimenting with, and using, the website Prezi.com to extend the ways we can create and share our ideas with others. The Prezis cover various topics. We hope you like them!

Week in Review for 17/03/11

In Math we learnt about angles it was hard at first then I understood it better, we learnt all the different angles. In English we started NCR's my first topic was about “How to Create a Book” then I thought of animals so I did “kittens” which was less complicated. In Inquiry we were doing posters about communities around the world I helped S with “Greenpeace” and I also helped with the “World Trade Organization”. It was due on Thursday. In music we were learning “We Are the World” (the song) and in assembly we are going to perform it on Sunday it was really fun I enjoyed it. I think I was a communicator because I communicated with my group in inquiry.

Thanks NT

Week in Review 10/03/11

This week we had a lot of hard work but it  was worth it as we learned a lot of new information and we increased our knowledge. This week i learned about the UN and WTO. I learned that the UN stands for the United Nations and that WTO stands for The World Trade Organization. I also learned about what the UN is and same for the WTO as they all help our world. I also learned about Journalisim writing and we did a report. I thought I did very well, thanks to this website:http://writingfun.com/. I also learned about angles and how to measure them and why they are useful. Also in maths we learned about lots of different types of diagrams such as a Carrol diagrams and Venn diagrams.

Thanks KH

Week in Review for 03/03/11.

This week I learned how to make games with a program for begginers called Scratch its very fun to make games you have to be a thinker and a risk taker and openminded and I am making games for my 10% time.I can create anything for my 10% time like drawing or making a website with information about food or making a website with games and you can create many other things. When you are finished, you have to present what you did and explain what you learned and why it was important to you.

Thanks again KM!

Week in Review 24/02/11

What I learned this past week was how to make a airplane in many ways some ways were hard some ways were easy but they were both fun after we made the airplane we had to guess what would happen to the plane I guessed that mine wouldnt fly far and when we were testing our airplanes I was right but then Mr Walsh told me to put a pin at the front of the airplane and then it flmy group was ew further because of momentum. What else I learned this past week was to make a tower with a chosen group i was put in it was complicated but also fun and we got a good result it was complicated because we had to make a tower from 4 thin sticks 1 thick stick and tape and rope and rubber bands and cardboard.Me and my group were communicators a lot and we were risk takers. What I enjoyed that it was complicated and fun at the same time and that my group and me were communicators and risktakers.

Thanks KM!

Week in Review for 17/02/11

This week in math we were solving riddles. Like for example: There were six eggs in a baskit. Every one took a egg. How can there still be one egg in the baskit? Answer: the last person took the egg in the baskit.
It was a bit confusing but most people enjoyed doing riddls or math problems.

In Inquiry we were focusing on forces. We made our own paper air planes and got to test them. Most of our paper air planes flew well. To do that we had to add some weight to the paper air planes to keep them balanced. We all got tot try putting a paper clip any were around the paper air plane to see were it would work best. Most of us thought that it was best when we put the paper clip in the middle of the paper air plane. Out of this we learned four forces that keep a plane flying which are: Thrust, Drag, Lift and weight.

In English we continued with our explanitory writing.

Thanks H! Glad to see you back!

Week in Review for 17/02/11

The 25th of January is Police day in Egypt or more known as Protesting Day.
On that day we had no school and that was when Egypt’s youth rose up with their decisions for their country's benefit.

They wanted all Egypt’s leaders to step down from their posts and one of these people was the Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.

Since the 25th till now (Feb. 2) protesters are still in central Cairo, Tahrir sq. and do not seem to give up, Police seems to have switched their targets to the opposite, from protect to attack. Also one of the government’s decisions was to cut off all devices used for keeping contact all over Egypt which are mobile phones and internet. This caused the protesters to mistrust the police in handling any other situation and it has built a wall between the police and the people.

The 8th of February was the first day for our class to have a live sessions on Vyew.com. Other people and I thought it was quite fun, for some people it was better than spending 6 hours at school. We worked on fractions decimals and percent in math, in English we worked on journalistic writing and recounts and our homework was to create an article about what happened recently in Egypt. In inquiry, we worked on forces and how a ladder can slide off a roof of a car if it is not stabilized because of the forces acting on it like gravity and inertia.

Thanks Z! Glad to see you are alright!
