Week in Review for 16/06/11

The past  week we had very fun days. In math we have learned how to calculate surface area of cylinder, volume of cylinder and area of a cylinder. We need to use a method called pi which is very useful for working out surface area, volume and area of any circular shape. All of us have learned very many things and it was very fun.

In English, we presented our author comparisons. We also had our student led conferences. We all had to prepare to show things that we have done through out the year to our parents. We had to write reflections about our work because it helped alot in our presentation. In our presentations we didn't get embrassed in front of our parents and it actually helped us on D-day, phew!

In Inquiry we had to compare our information that we learned and researched through the week and put them together in some form of presentation. Our group decided to do poster, it was our first time making posters in our group but it wasn't hard when it was our first try.

In P.E it was sort of a test. What we had to do was beat the records. The records was measured in time. It was fun for some of us and some freaked out.

In Music we still practised our music and we are very excited about it because we are going to perform it on Sunday next week. We all tried our best and we are going to do our best in the performance.

In our 10% time we all worked hard and we were all very happy the only thing was that it was our last 10% time we were all disapointed and the leftover work we need to work in summer holiday.

Thanks, J!

(Mr.Lowe: Everyone did a fabulous job, well done! I was really proud of you all for working so hard during your music lessons!)

Week in Review 02/06/11

This past week we learnt alot and did many fun activities.

In English we continued our author comparisons which is where we had to do research about two authors and what books they have written and what inspired them to write their books. Next week we have to present our findings to the class in the form of a presentation. It was a little complicated to find all the information but we still enjoyed finding out more about our favourite authors.

In Maths we had some time to finish our mathletics tasks. We were continuing on with Ratio and Proportion. It's fun to learn new things in maths because maths is important. I found this subject difficult though.

In inquiry we were put into groups, 1,2 and 3. In each group we had to research about migrations and put the information we found in our inquiry books. Next week we will go to a different group and share information with them and they will share their information with us.

In music this week was really fun. We were practising the song we are the champions and also the song we will rock you. It was really fun all singing together. Another thing that was really fun was that we finally had the Key Stage 2 production performance which I am in. It was so much fun with the music and the lights and everyone watching.

In Arabic we built houses out of cardboard and furniture with our modeling clay. It was fun.

Finally in PE this week some of us missed PE because we had production rehearsals but when I was there in PE we did diving and survival techniques.

Thanks H!

Week in Review 26/05/11

GCSE Art Exhibition
In PE, we were doing swimming and I really enjoyed it a lot! We have our swimming session every Tuesday. We were doing survival lessons which was a very big challenge for some of us. The PE teachers would throw a ball to you, if you catch it with one hand, then you get a 30 second rest, if you catch it with 2 hands then you only get a 10 second rest! After that, we played Water Polo which is very rare in PE. I learned that it is not very easy to stay in the sea if you are trying to save someone.

In Math, we had our mathematics assessment which i thought was not going to be very easy but it was actually simpler than I thought. I learned that you don't have to create a big scene if you have an assessment , it is better to stay calm and think carefully.

In English, we also had our assessment. It was about comprehension and we read some passages and we were asked questions about the passage like what happened. I thought that the comprehension assessment was harder than the Math because it was like a memory game.

In Inquiry, we were making comics related to our Unit of Inquiry - We are responsible for our personal well being as we develop. I found the comic part quite fun... mine was about Peer Pressure. I learned that when you get older you develop in different ways like bullying, peer pressure, hygiene and nutrition, but you also become more responsible for things which are more important.

Thanks N!

Mobile Devices in Class

"Ok, now just act natural..."
We have started using our Mobile Learning devices. We were all very excited because this was the first project in school history and we were the one who got to experience it first so we got started right away. First we got out our inquiry book and wrote down our expectations of our Mobile learning devices we have wrote 13 expectation. Some of the main expectations were NEVER leave your device unattended, treat other people’s device how you want yours to be treated, share your devices and don’t be silly with your devices. After we wrote our 13 expectations the next thing we had to do was to get a permission slip and get it sign by our parents and then bring our permission slip and bring it to our teacher the next day.

The next day we set our schedules of when we will bring our Mobile learning devices and the days were set as Monday and Tuesday and people who didn’t bring their permission slips weren’t allowed to use their devices and was lock in the teachers locker. What we did first when our mobile, laptop devices were at school the I.C.T department people had came and set up our connections. Fortunately all of them which was brought with the permission slips were connected to the router (internet) and it was our first day of our mobile learning devices so we practiced by visiting our class website and answered some comments and we explored with it a little and we went home.

The next Monday more people have brought their permission with their devices and they were all connected to the router (internet) and we started by keeping our devices safe from any danger. We started working on the basic steps like setting up QR code reader which can read QR codes and writing comments, visiting websites and connecting to the router which have been cut off during the week. We started to use our mobile learning devices we had some little troubles but everyone is enjoying the project and having the best use of the devices to do our school work.

I think that it is a very good idea to have our mobile devices with us because  we might have some work on our devices that can't be transformed to a USB or another netbook. Also, we always have our devices so why can't we use them? Why i dont think it is such a good idea to have our devices because some people might think that you are showing off and it might make the people who don't get a chance to have their devices and work on them and they would see us then get jealous. Another reason why i did not think it was such a great idea is because it might be a risk for some people if they lose it or not or if they get some cracks on it and worst of all, you get it stepped on!

For me, it was a great experience and I think that all of us have learned a lot.  The only way we would have gone through with it was all because of the great IT Technician, who helped us through everything!!!!

Thanks for this J!

Week in Review 19/05/11

In Math we reviewed ratio and proportion I found ratio easiar than proportion then I made a board game about times tables and other math questions. In Music I got a solo part in the song called "We Will rock you" and we learnt another song called "We are the champions", In English we carried on with our bord games mine was about diary of a wimpy kid and its author, In PE we separated into three groups and did activities and in swimming our teachers told us what group we were in and last but not least 10 % time I started a new topic called "stop animation" I am enjoying it alot more than my last topic witch was a flip book.

The Egyptian Revolution by Year 6WL

Below you will find reflections by the pupils of how the Egyptian Revolution affected them, and how they felt about the changes taking place in their lives and the lives of those around them. Thankfully, we were able to have our lessons online using the website Vyew.com. I hope you find the reflections as thought provoking as we have.

Friday night, we got stuck out in a suburb of Cairo. We had to sleep at a friend’s house because there was a curfew. I learned that there were protests going on against the President. The President had blocked the roads, cut off phone lines and cut off the Internet. Today we were packing just in case we had to leave Egypt. We got a call saying we were going to England. It ended up that we would just go to a resort outside the city.

The first night back home was a bit scary. I could hear gun shots from the balcony and I could see tanks at the gas station. I was really scared because we live very close to a prison. When I heard the local mall had been broken into and burned I thought about my favorite shop Claire’s and it was tragic. Its kind of strange because earlier in school my friends and I were talking about what we would do if something happened to Claire’s and how sad that would be. As I was going to bed this night, I felt kind of scared and like we should not be here. Its weird that the year we chose to come here is the year that this had to happen.

Next, we got a call to be ready at the drop of a hat. My dad said we are going to England. That freaked me out because it was just so sudden. Some of the stuff I liked I could not take which made me really sad. I was especially worried about my cats. I was relieved when our landlord offered to look after them while we were away.

When another call came saying that we could not go to England and instead would go to another location outside the city, I was disappointed because I hoped to see my grandma. The next morning, we got on a bus. It was a long drive and I saw lots of tanks and soldiers along the way.

As soon as I saw where we would be staying, I was relieved and excited. There was a big white water slide that was so much fun, but we had to buy a tube. Our room had three different sections, my parents room, a lounge and a room for my brother and me.

During our stay, we went on a snorkeling cruise and my parents and brother saw a Napolean fish, a sting ray and a moray eel. I got to hold a puffer fish and I threw the fish that the boat people caught back in to the sea. At the last Island, I snorkeled around and found starfish and shells with living things inside.

After the cruise we ate dinner and went up to play ping pong and pool. I’m getting better at ping pong but I am still learning how to use the stick for pool. Later I went to bed watching CSI. I was so freaked out by this show that I couldn’t even get out of bed to turn off the TV.

Eventually we got told that we would go home on the bus the next day or the day following. We chose to go home on the last bus. Finally, we arrived home where my cats were waiting for me on the porch. Carrying back all of those bags was worth it when I saw the cats. Asia literally hugged me and wouldn’t let go. I really love them and I’m happy to be home.

Week in Review for 12/05/11

This week we have concentrated on creativity in more than one task. In English we were concerned books and authors and that is why we made our own board games about our favourite books and authors. In Inquiry, we have started a new topic and we have started making drawings so that we learn how to draw in our comics, the way we are drawing is called Manga and it was created by some japanese artists that have then spread it to the media to make cartoons and many other things. This is to show how we will decide what the right thing to do is when we need to make difficult decisions as we get older. As for Math we have been planning a trip with a friend, it is not that easy once you know that you only have 10,000 GBP
and you spend them in hotel rooms and flights, the hard part is that you have to calculate the distance between the first country to the other country and the trip has to be in 9 different countries in 9 different cities. Then we had to change our money and change our distances from km to meters.

Thanks Z!

Week in Review:

This week was a really exciting week. Because it is EASTER!! We did an Egg hunt and egg decoration. We all had one buddy from year 2 and we went to find the eggs. Everyone tried to find the golden egg but the golden egg went to one of the Year 5s and their buddy. It was inside the a juice box. So when it was over, we went to our own class room and we each got one egg to decorate as best as we could. Some puplils made a buddy, a scuba diver, a man holding a dumbell, and a men who had a worm in their head. The secondary art teacher had to pick one of the best eggs in each year group. The winner in Year 6 was K who made a man holding a dumbell. The whole time was really fun.

In math, we made 3d shapes using nets. We had to cut the out lines and stick them nicely. It was very fun and we learned about nets and a bit about surface area.

In 10% time, many people presented their first 10% time projects. NT presented her flipbook animation, P presented his poster about lions.

Everyone is excited about the easter holiday because we have 2 weeks holiday. I hope they enjoy it.

Thanks S!

Week in Review for 31/03/11

Yesterday we had Trade Day and it was very fun. My partner was KH and we were trying our best to keep our money but in the last few minutes, Mexico came to sell us a lot of things and we were trying our best to keep the amount of money that we were going to pay very low because we were running out of money too quickly. There were lots of other countries around us. Some of the countries were very unlucky because they were given a crisis and when you get a crisis, you can't trade for 15 minutes. Fortunatly KH and I never got a crisis. Our country was Libya.

In PE we have something called PE Sport Module and we are doing the sport football for the next 5 weeks and we have a tournamenet which i think is going to be very fun. After the tournament, we have a party.

In our Football ECA, we have another tournament taking place next week on Tuesday. I am very excited for the tournament. We will play against another local school and we will visit them in their school so hopefully we will win.

Thanks NS!

Our collection of Prezis

Over the past few months our class has been experimenting with, and using, the website Prezi.com to extend the ways we can create and share our ideas with others. The Prezis cover various topics. We hope you like them!
