Danger
Deadly
Angry things
Nasty little demons
Great at scaring people

Personification Poem by Lucy
I live in outside.
I can see butterflies and bees in the morning.
I cannot move.
I am afraid of humans that are near me.
I dream of becoming very beautiful.
I come in different colours and different types.
My name is love.

Personification Poem by Daniel
In our English lessons we are learning about figurative language. One area of figurative language, besides similes and metaphors, is personification. When a writer uses personification, they give an object, for example a chair, the human characteristics of feelings, thoughts or movement.
In the posts that follow, some of our learners have asked to share their personification poems with our blog visitors.
Please share your ideas with us.

Personification Poem by "Daniel"
I live in a classroom.
I can see the children working.
I can hear the students talking but can never make out what they're saying.
I can feel the students pushing me around.
I can make out the teachers writing on me.
I can make out the teachers writing on me.
I have a piece of paper called Amber.
I always find writing on Amber every time I look.
I love to eat ink.
I see people smile as they do English, but on the other hand, I can see people frown when they do math.
My name is High White.
If you don't know what a personification poem is, it is a poem when you make something that is not alive (for example a chair) have the characteristics or traits of a human.

Chinese New Year (CNY)
We've had a great few days in preparation for Chinese New Year. We have started to write poems and enjoyed the festivities put on around school such as assemblies and performances. The senior school entertained us with games from China and we watched the traditional lion dance.
Here is an example of the Chinese New Year poems we are writing which has been made into a poster. We are continuing our poem writing with the use of similes and metaphors in rhyming couplets which will be turned into performance poems.
We've really enjoyed the festivities as we welcome in the Year of the Horse! Do you celebrate Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year? What are you celebrating around this time of year? What is your favourite poem? Do you have some poems you'd like to share with us?

Fishing (Limerick)
Fishing
One day while fishing in a pond,
I got distrcted by a frond.
I made a wish.
To catch a fish.
Instead, I sank in the pond.
Thanks S!

Pupil Work - Poems
Nonsense Poem
8-10 around Big Ben,
6-9 clapping in time,
3-4 demanding more,
2-5 pigs like jive,
1-3 stung by a bee,
3-7 I've never been to Devon,
1-2 playing the didgeridoo,
2-4 waiting at your door.
Computer Keyboard
(Personification)
I have a grey bumpy, shelly skin ,
I have tattoed words and letters all over me ,
5 legged octopus's dance and play all over me ,
I have a pet mouse which follows me everywhere.
I only have small, stubby legs.
Limerick !!!
I spoke to my dad
who has been very bad ,
he didnt care
that he spent his airfare ,
So now I can pretend I am mad!

The week in review - English
Hi Everyone!
Welcome to this year's first round of "The week in review", where pupils from the class write about what they've learned this week.
The honour of being first goes to "G":
"Over the last week we have been doing a lot of poetry and personification poems. In class we each created our own and shared it with class members . I have learnt a lot about them in the past week and hope to learn more ,English so far has been interesting and exciting.
PEN !
My inside is all blue and inky.
My tongue comes in and out when monsters push my legs up and down,
I scribble all day on white snow,
I sometimes get so tired and exhausted that I stop sweating my blue ink,
My friends and family come in many different colors’ they were all taken to serve the monsters,
I have many tattoos that say faber casstel, but my cousins have tattoos that say “Bic”,
I share a big bag with other things like me and a long stick and a magic remover!
All I see each day are other monsters that hold my kind! ,
My name is Lickity Blue Pen

This is a sample of some of the work I have completed in the past week for our topic of personification in poems for English.
I have just started to learn about personification so I hope this is a good example for younger people who look at this work trying to find some inspiration. I hope readers will gather from my text what I mean and what these types of poems do and explain.
