Week in Review:

This week was a really exciting week. Because it is EASTER!! We did an Egg hunt and egg decoration. We all had one buddy from year 2 and we went to find the eggs. Everyone tried to find the golden egg but the golden egg went to one of the Year 5s and their buddy. It was inside the a juice box. So when it was over, we went to our own class room and we each got one egg to decorate as best as we could. Some puplils made a buddy, a scuba diver, a man holding a dumbell, and a men who had a worm in their head. The secondary art teacher had to pick one of the best eggs in each year group. The winner in Year 6 was K who made a man holding a dumbell. The whole time was really fun.

In math, we made 3d shapes using nets. We had to cut the out lines and stick them nicely. It was very fun and we learned about nets and a bit about surface area.

In 10% time, many people presented their first 10% time projects. NT presented her flipbook animation, P presented his poster about lions.

Everyone is excited about the easter holiday because we have 2 weeks holiday. I hope they enjoy it.

Thanks S!

Week in Review for 02/12/10

In school, our inquiry topic is about conflict and peace.
We are learning about WW2 and other conflicts and for our summative task, we needed to choose a conflict that we want to reasearch about and we need to make a nespaper or a video like on the news. I am doing the Korean War and it is very intersting.
For the inquiry unit, we also went on a three day class trip to a war memorial site. We went to see German, Commonwealth and Italian memorials. Each one was very different. The German one was like an ancient old one, and the Italian one is like very clean and white and nice with a big echo. We also went to grave sites at the Commonwealth memorial. There were so many people died in the war. I felt kind of sad.
We also went to the local war museum. It was very intersting. We needed to answer questions in our trip booklet. We needed to treat them like gold so they would not get lost. It was very useful to learn about the conflicts which have happened .
In math, we started to learn about average, like mean, median, range and MODE. MODE stands for... Most Often. We learned that, for example: 1,3,5,7,6,2,2,4,3,3,1,9,8. The number which we see most often is 3. So the mode is 3. We also learned Median and Mean. Median is the number in the middle when you have a group of numbers. EX:2,2,3,5,7. We put them in order smallest to largest and find the middle number. So the midian is 3. But if the group of numbers is an even number, you do like this. EX:2,2,3,5,7,7. 3+5=8. 8 divide 2 =4. so 4 is the midian. The mean is like this. 20,20,20. if you add them, it is 60. 60 divided by 3 is 20. the mean is 20. It was very fun.

Thanks S!

Week in review for 17/06/10

Mathematics: This week in math we have been learning about area which is basically length X width, eg. so if it's a square and it's length is seven and it's width is also seven then you multiply seven by seven. The answer is always in squared centimetres or meters or what ever you are using.

English: This week in English we have been writing a play script and we had to record ourselves while we were speaking because people will listen to it but there wont be any pictures so that it would be like the old plays in the 1950's which were recorded on the radio.

Inquiry: This week in Inquiry we just started a new topic called Taking Care Of Our Selves, during this topic we learnt about the human body and how our body grows as we get older.

Sport's day: Last week we had sport's day. In sport's day we played a lot of games and races, in the end Mr. Sargent had to count all the points which each house earned from each game they played, in the end Air won the sport's day.
Thanks B!

Week in Review for 10/06/10

Sports day was last week on Wednesday. Sports Day is about all the House teams, our teams are Air, Water, Earth and Fire; I am in Air which won 4 times in a row. There are house captains, the house captains are 1 boy and 1 girl for each house.

Sports day was fun for everyone. We did Races, Javelin, Slingshot, Basketball shootout, Long jump and Water Race. When players are tired they can have a rest under the shaded area with a water break. Finals are played at the end of the Sports day which includes only races. I reached the final in the Race but unfortunately I came 2nd. Guess who came first?

At the end of sports day Mr. Sergent the judge counted the points and added them up. The team with the higher house points wins. There also some certificates given for the best boy and best girl in the running finals, Slingshot, Javelin and Long jump.

Don't worry Primary because in Secondary too there is a Sports Day.

Thanks A!

Week in Review for 20/05/10

Over the past week in English, we have finished writing our final drafts and typing them up, we are now up to choosing design templates for our newspapers with Mr. Lowes' assistance.
Also we have been writing scripts for our yr6 assembly plays with a strict deadline! each group gets at maximum a 5 minute play performing a year stage like an important event in nursery or reception, yr 1, yr2, yr3...., there is also a play for everyone.

Maths: During maths we have been brushing up on prime numbers and we are also doing Christian Goldbachs' (he lived between the 1690s' and the 1760s') theory (conjecture), he was a maths professor at the Russian Imperial Academy. His theory is that "Every integer can be written as the sum two primes, can also be written as the sum of as many primes as one wishes, until all terms are units."
He also wrote a second theory "every integer greater than two can be written as the sum of 3 primes."

Inquiry: In Inquiry we have been writing narrative stories about a leader of our choosing living during the times of World War Two for example: Hitler and the Blitzkreig. Now that everyone is finished we are adding things to our portfolio for our student led conferences at the end of the year.

I.C.T: In I.C.T we have been writing reflections about all the websites and software we have used over the year there are many websites Mr. Lowe has introduced us to. The website we are most familier with is Edu20, were Mr. Lowe sends us our homework and messages about what we will be doing each day.

Thanks G!

Trip Reflections

EL ALAMEIN REFLECTION
Day one: Arriving at school on time meant being principled at my house; it was a fiasco trying to get out the door making sure that I had everything with me; my packed lunch, a hat, a drink bottle and my suitcase.
A small group of seven children piling onto a small mini van without complaining that the air conditioner or the windows were not opening took being a thinker and also knowledge to know that it was rude and disrespectful to the driver and the teacher. Even though the bus was traveling at a very slow pace of 60km/h some of the time was annoying but we arrived at the hotel Ghazala Regency in a record time of 5hrs and 10mins.
When we got to our hotel rooms everyone was exhausted. We were all open-minded saying that we would let each other onto the beds before we chose our own, everyone wanted to sleep but we still had a whole afternoon to do orientation activities like swimming in the cave pool and mapping the ground floor of the hotel. We were communicators saying “does that go there?” and “does that go here?” Finally, we got to go back to our rooms, having only 30 minutes rest and then we got a phone call from Mr. Cavanagh saying that we had to meet in the meeting room on level 3 before we went to dinner.

We played a game to decide which group would go to dinner first. What you had to do is everyone closed their eyes and we had to count to ten one person at a time and no one could say the same number at the same time or everyone had to start again! It was very fun.

That night, we all went out onto the sand and played capture the flag. The girl’s team won because we found the boy’s flag underneath the soccer goal, surprise, surprise! The boy’s couldn’t find ours; we hid it in a broken lamp.

Day two: A 7am wake up call was not what we wanted! Everyone in my room was rushing around like chickens without a head trying to clean up for the room inspection and also trying to fit in showers.
We all piled into our buses after a big breakfast - it was a 40 minute drive to our first stop, The Commonwealth War Memorial. It was the biggest of all the memorials we went to. We had to do 2 grave rubbings and answer questions about the memorial. I found one of my ancestors; a corporal in the Australian Imperial Army! At this war memorial I learnt about how many people gave their lives in the conflict.
At the German memorial I learnt how much money the Germans (Hitler and the NAZIS) put into winning this war and how much more money they lost when they surrended to the Allies. I also learnt how sorry the Germans were for what they had done and also how kind people were because they forgave.
The Italian memorial was beautiful, the marble was so white and plain but it really did mean something. The Italians really wanted their soldiers to rest peacefully with what little money they had left.
When we got back to the hotel we all met in the meeting room to discuss what we had done that day. We then did a technology quiz with eggs, my group's egg burst so we could not compete =( . Then we played a game called blow the tank, it was very fun. Finally we got to go to dinner and then head off to bed, there were no complaints there!

Day three: After everyone was finished packing up suitcases and cleaning out rooms the teachers had one final check through each room and then let us go and put our luggage onto transport carts and hand in our towel cards to reception. We all headed up to the meeting room for the instructions on what we were doing and then we all trudged slowly down to the buses saying our goodbyes to all the rooms and the hotel (babyish I know). Once we got on our buses everyone was okay, we were happy to be going home to our families but we had to make a few toilet stops on the way home. However, we got back to school at 5:05pm to see forests of parents waving and waiting for us to get off the buses. I know that all of us were excited to see our parents but we couldn't wait to go on another school trip.

El Alamein Reflection
We went to El Alamien and stayed in a hotel called Ghazala Regency. It was very big; in our room we had three. We had evening games on the first day and we played capture the flag. On the second day, we had a competition of which egg will survive by getting dropped from three meters. Tuesday was the best day ever because we went to the Commonwealth Graves, the War Museum, German war memorial and the Italian war memorial.

At the Commonwealth Graves each person had his own grave and they were all from the Allied countries. It had more than 100 grave stones, I found one that said "Deep in our hearts a memory is kept of one we loved and shall never forget".

In the war museum, there were wax people and guns and weapons that were used during the war. It had all sorts of hall's. There was the Italian hall, the Egyptian, the British, and the German hall. On the outside of the museum there were Turrets, Tanks, a Spitfire and cars that were also used in WWII.

In the German memorial were all the people that died. They were buried all together which was hard to get over, they were the ones who lost so they didn't have their own grave. In the Italian memorial, the people had a space in the wall and some of the coffins said "IGNOTO" printed on them which means "Unknown."

I was Knowledgeable, Caring, a Communicator, Open-Minded and Reflective during this trip. I enjoyed the trip, it was my best school trip ever.

El Alamein Reflection
During the trip to El Alamein I learned alot of things. When we went to the museum, I discovered that lots more people died than I thought and it made me feel sad because they risked their lives for the safety of our future. Seeing all the graves in the memorials made me think about how hard it must have been to go through WW2. I also learned what "IGNOTO" means,  it means "unknown" and was used in the Italian memorial. There was alot of Ignoto's!

Back at the hotel, we learned a game called "Capture the Flag." It was really fun since the girls won because "R" was being a thinker and an inquirer as she found the flag and she thought about where it could be, and if she should risk being caught since she only had a "2" card.

During dinner, many of us weren't being very balanced because we ate too much ice cream and not enough proper food! I think we should have eaten more healthy food first, before we moved on to dessert.

In the meeting room, we had to wrap an egg so when the teachers droppped it, it wouldn't break. My group should have been more careful and principled because we cracked our egg when we were wrapping it. M's group was open-minded because their's didn't break because they thought about how to wrap it up carefully.

Another game we played was "mine field" and my team won! I think we were caring and we were communicators because we encouraged each other and discussed where to step and if there was a mine or not.

At the Commonwealth memorial N and A were being caring because they helped everyone with the questions in our books and told us where we could find the answer.

On the way to El Alamein, my bus group and I were being communicators because we brainstormed together answers for the quiz.

Overall, I achieved my learner profile characteristic goal which was to be a risk taker and I demonstrated that by doing different things than others.

El Alemain reflection

When we arrived at the hotel Mr.C showed us the meeting room. While we were at the meeting room Mr.C was calling out our names and giving us towel cards with our room keys.

I thought we were principled while doing our orientation. We were principled during our orientation because we came back on time and there were no teachers with us.Then we played a game called "mine fields." After that we went to the pool. Some people were being risk - takers by going into the freezing pool and back in the warm pool.

When we finished we were all sent to our rooms. When we finished dinner we played a game called "capture the flag" where I thought we were communicators. I thought this because everyone kept saying you do this and I'll do that. We were reflective when we were doing our journal writing because we were thinking of the past and what we had learned.

I also thought we were knowledgeable and inquirers while visiting three memorials and one musuem . We were knowledgeable and inquirers because we all listened to our teachers, and stayed with our group. The questions made us thinkers and reflective because we had to think of the past and ask lots of different questions.

After a while we had a quiz which I found fun.We were also communicators because we kept saying you write this and I'll write that. Then we had to built a contraption with an egg without it cracking. Some groups weren't very principled because while they were building there contraption , the egg cracked! The teachers were very caring because they let us have fun and learn at the same time .

The goals I achieved were listening carefully and being knowledgeable. I was listening to my teacher and I got alot of information.

El Alamein Reflection

On the bus Journey to El Alamein our group was knowledgeable because the first thing we did was the quiz and we did not leave it to the last minuet. When we got there, the first place we went to was the meeting room and the teachers told us to go to our room when we got our keys. After we had been in our rooms we went to the pool and I played water polo.

The first activity we did in our camp book at the hotel was to draw the hotel. I think that I was a thinker because I went out to the balcony, so I could see the whole hotel. That night, I learned how to play capture the flag with cards on the beach.

The next morning we went to the Commonwealth Cemetery. When I was there I learned about how people are buried close together if they die in the same place and time. Next we went to the museum. At the museum we saw lots of tanks and a plane.

After that we went to the German memorial and I was an inquirer because I asked lots of questions about the slabs of rock underneath the burial. Finally we went to the Italian memorial where I learned that lots of people where buried with the words Ignoto on them (meaning unknown). The next morning we did lots of activities like building sand castles, going on walks and playing beach football.

El Alamein Reflection
Year 6 and Group 7 went on a fantastic trip which was to El Alamein. When we went to the Common Wealth Memorial I learnt that different people with different ages were in war and they had died for their country! J.Davids was the youngest I saw and he was 17 years old. The oldest one I saw was aged 42 and his name was C.Gunn. I think we were all caring because we were behaving sensibly in the Memorials and we all did what we were supposed to do. This was my first time in my life to do a rubbing and I was really good at it. There were some graves stuck together and that was because those people died at the same time, same place and for the same reason.
When we went to the museum we had to listen to a recording and it helped us with the questions in our camp book. This recording had a lot of information and it was useful.
In the Italian Memorial it said "Ignoto" and in Italian it means "unknown" they also had "sold." for "soldier." The different nationalities were New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Poland, Scotland and England. Here are the countries and the people from there:
New Zealand: M.W Mipgley
Scotland: E. Jordan
South Africa: JPP Palfinson
England: J.N Robinson
Some people were not buried in those memorials because they were buried in the place where their family can go and visit them. Britain was stopping the Axix from taking over North Africa. Britain also had more troops and that's why they thought it was easy to defeat the Italians.

El Alamian Reflection
When we went to the Commonwealth war graves I felt sad because I never knew many of the soldiers were not found and some of the ones they found, they didn't know who they were. There were hundreds of dead soldiers in the ground there.

In the Italian memorial, they were buried in the wall, and had marble tiles on the space were the bodies are. Their names and ranks were written on the tile in front of them. There was a room though that was full of tiles saying IGNOTO on them. This means unknown. Like the Commonwealth war graves, there are a lot of people that we have no idea who they are except that they were Italian.

At the war museum we learnt about the battle of El Alamian. The Axis forces had more troops and were led by Erwin Rommel, also known as the Desert Fox. The Allied forces were led by Montgomery and had fewer troops at first. At the museum, there were huge old army tanks and guns. I would be pretty scared if one of those tanks came rolling towards me. I think Rommel was a thinker because he wore goggles over his eyes to protect himself from the sand and dust that explosions would spread everywhere.

At the German Memorial there was a cube in the middle that had eagles on all of the corners and a obelisk was on top of it with German massages on all of the sides. I think that my friends and I were thinkers because we untangled ourselves in an activity were you hold the hands of two people in front of you in a circle.

El Alamein Reflection

Our bus ride to El Alamein was about four and a half hours when we where going and about 5 hours when we were coming back, so that made the bus ride very long and boring. As soon as we arrived we all went up to our rooms and unpacked our bags. After we finished we all met in the meeting room and had a small discussion about what we were going to do.

When Mr.C was done with his talking we all went to the restaurant and had a small snack until lunch was ready. When we finished lunch we were put into groups. There was group A and group B, group A started in the pool and group B started by doing outdoor activities. That night at 9:30 we went outside after taking a shower and played a game in the sand which included our torches. The game was called capture the flag, which was very fun. We finished our game at about 10:15, and without a sound we all went up to our rooms quietly because all the guests were asleep.

The next day, we went to see all the museums in El Alamein. The thing I enjoyed the most that day was when we went to the Commonwealth cemetery because I saw all the different nationalities that were there and their different ages. The oldest man I found there was 46 years old and he was from England and the youngest man there was 17 years old and he was born in Fiji. I didn’t really like the German memorial because it was small and it only had about 10 coffins. The Italian memorial was really good because all the dead men were buried on shelves on the wall. When we went to the memorials we had to be very quiet and respectful because it was like going to a church or a mosque.

In the trip I think I was a communicator because I communicated with my teammates during the egg contest and also while playing football.

El Alamien Reflection

I learned how to depend on myself. I was responsible because I learned how to pack my cloths and get dressed on time. I respected my roommates and we didn’t fight. I was a risk taker because I was brave to try things I never tried before like the walk with Mrs. Wolbers and  Mr. Jo and some of my teammates.

When we went to the Commonwealth memorial there were people from different countries and different cities. I have learned that most of the soldiers who are buried there were from different ages for example; the oldest one i found was 46 years old and the youngest was about 16 or 17 years old.

I learned how to do a rubbing when we went to the German memorial, Italian memorial and in the Commonwealth as well. After we arrived at the hotel we played a game called water polo; it’s like volleyball but in the pool! At night we played a game called "Capture the Flag." We learned teamwork from that game  which means how to follow the right behavior while working within a team.

Before leaving the hotel we played some games like beach football and we played with the sand and we had a contest to see which sand castle was the best. The winner got a prize. On our way back from El Alamien, I didn’t enjoy my time because it was too long. I only started to enjoy when we arrived to the school as we kept singing and talking about what we enjoyed during the whole trip.

We hope you have enjoyed the reflections about our trip. Please scroll down to see our Virtual Tour of the Commonwealth War Memorial.

Week in Review for 06/05/10.

CLASS WEBSITE CONTRIBUTION

In English we have been working on narrative writing. We had to choose a person from WWII and write a piece of narrative writing as if you were that person. I chose Charles De Gaulle and I learned a lot about him like how he felt about the war and how he had to escape to London. This was important because it had a lot to do with what I was writing about. I also learned that when he was broadcasting on the BBC radio in London, he had to use coded messages in case the NAZI’S were listening.

In Math’s we have been working on division. We had to divide decimals and 2 digit numbers. I learned different methods of how to divide whole numbers and I learned a method that was new to me. I also think I got better at division because I used to only divide a 1 digit number by any other number but now I can divide bigger numbers! I have never divided decimals before but then I got better at it once I had practice.

In Inquiry we have started a new topic called conflict and we have mainly been learning about WW2 as an example of conflict. We watched a video called “Goodnight Mr. Tom” about how refugees had to leave London because of the war going on. During the video, I learned how children had to leave their parents and go to safer places, away from the war. They had to stay with someone they didn’t even know with only around 2 suitcases with them.

Thanks K!

Week in Review for 30/04/10

This week has been our first week of our third and last term, NEARLY SECONDARY!!!

We, have started Journalistic Writing in English, Conflict in Inquiry and Maths is getting VERY busy!

ENGLISH
In English, we have started working on journalist writing, this week we have done our practice draft but next week we are going to start the real piece of journalist writing. We are all very excited and have already started to think about what we are going to write THIS time. Some people are going to do the same topic as the practice draft, others want to change topic. We have one main topic and then from four to six small topics which is quite a lot of work!

MATHS
In maths we have finished textbook 6B and started textbook 6C. The work on textbook 6C that we have been doing this week has been revising what we did in term 2 and working on adding and subtracting numbers with decimals. We also did a game called “Decimal Battleship” it was a really interesting and fun game to play, we enjoyed it a lot!!!

INQUIRY
In Inquiry we have started a new topic called "Conflict." This topic tells us about the reasons countries go to war (Religion, Enconomic reasons, Natural resources and territory) and how different types of wars happened and why they happened, how these wars could have not happened and so on. Most of the class is really interested on working about the topic World War Two and we are doing lots of different tasks that we enjoy doing. For example, a few days ago we got into partners and chose one of the leaders of a country e.g. Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt, De Gaulle, Hitler, Mussolini, etc. Then we researched about them and wrote as many notes we could about them. At the end of the lesson our teacher asked us a question about the person we researched, every time you missed a question the next one got harder!!! Unlucky last person!

In this topic we are having the best trip of the term, the trip that all year 6 classes are waiting for... . It is a place where a very important part of World War Two happened, it shows us how many people died, who those people were and why they had died. This trip is soon and everyone is willing for those weeks to pass quickly because they really want to go. They’ve given us all the information we needed and this has made everyone more nervous and excited at the same time!

As you can see, Term 3 is started as quite a busy term but some of us don't like that much! :)

Week in Review for 01/04/10

My website contribution
Inquiry

In inquiry we have been working on our summative task . Our summative
task is building our own Forces chain reaction. We had to first design then
create it . Here is an example of a Chain reaction: push a ball, it rolls on
down a slide, then falls through the whole through a tube then pushes over the dominoes and the
dominoes which then push the car in the parking. It has to include as many forces as you
can think of. Some people decided to do posters of a chain reaction instead.

Reading records

This week we had to continue our reading records. We do this to show how well
we read and what we understood from the text. Also, the next time we do our reading
record we can see how much we have improved. Here is what we do: first,
you read the story out loud then you read it to yourself . Afterward Mr.Lowe will ask questions
about what you've read but you can look in the text for the answer. Some questions are inferential
questions which are questions where the answer is found by looking at the clues in the text.

Math

In math, we have been doing Percentage, fractions and decimals.
The one that I have enjoyed the most but didn't, really understand it in the
begginig was you had to find the percentage given with the amount of money
given . Then with the answer subtract with the amount of money given.
Here is an example :

20% of 3.00 pounds = 60p. Then I need to do this--> 3.00 pounds - 60p = 2.40 pounds.

Thanks S!

Week in Review for 11/02/10

Environmental Sciences Centre (ESC) TRIP:

2 weeks ago we went on a trip to a nearby environmental science centre. We all had groups and we did different things to the other groups. My group did acting fishing we also made food webs and we drew pictures about consumers and producers. We had luch there in very open rooms with funny doors and also there wasnt any windows there was just fly screen.

I had a great time there and i hope to go back there again.

MATHS:

Next week we have our Maths Week I hope it will be fun! This week my friends and i made a maths game it is 3-D snakes and ladders/monoply it is really fun.
Inquiry and english: this week we had our celebration of learning and we all got to show our parents our diaramas and our information , we also did our persuasive speeches for judging by Miss Phelps she is one of the secondary english teachers.

Week in Review 18/02/10

This week was maths week at school we each made projects for judging I was a risk-taker making my publicity motif i designed it to look like a calculator and the buttons displayed what technology uses maths to work, This worked tied into one of my new personal goals to think outside of the box and use other things i have never worked with before.

English: We have started using laptops for work learning to use them made me an inquirer i was trying to find new things to use on the computer and how different things worked. In this work I was also thinking outside of the box.

Inquiry: We have just had our celebration of learning we showed our parents all the work we have done in this unit my group made a stop-press movie and a replica of a zoo enclosure for Asian Elephants , when show different parents my work I was caring and reflective by being caring I let people talk about my work without interupting and by be reflective I let people know how much trouble our group went to, to get all of it done on time. One of my goals that I used in this is interacting with others because I worked with other people not just my friends.

Week in Review for 28/01/10

In maths we have been looking at formula. For example, p x 3 = 45. The formula is p = 15 because     15 x 3 = 45.

In English we are studying persuasive righting. We are using tools like propaganda and rhetorical questions to advertise a holiday on the moon.

In inquiry we are learning about biodiversity and how all living things depend on all other living things. On Thursday we went to an enviormental scince centre where we were put into groups and did 4 different activaties. In one of them we put snails in a jar on their own, plants in a jar on their own and snails and plants in the same jar. All the things died in all of the jars except for the balanced jar. The second activity was when we took sea weed and put it test tubes and left it there for 20 minutes. When we came back, we could see it made oxygen because there where bubbles in the test tubes. In the next activity we made a play showing the interdependence of all living things. The last activite was when we made a food chain. A food chain is a line of animals that eat other animals, for example a lion eats a zebra that eats grass.

Thanks D

Week in Review for 14.01.10

This week was the second week of school, in English we started doing persuasive writing about a subject that really meant a lot to us, my partner and I, have decided to take the position that “Wildlife Killing is Wrong.”
Before starting to write them we read a really good piece of work written by a girl in the same grade as us but not in our school, she even won a prize!

In Maths we are revising a bit from before the holidays and also working with decimals, its lots of fun because we add, subtract, multiply and divide with decimals. We also did two step problems and mental maths which isn’t as much fun but I still like it a lot!

In Inquiry we have started a new unit called “The World in Balance” our teacher just told us about a new project where we have to get in groups and do a diorama and a report about an endangered animal and the diorama has to look VERY realistic or else its no good!
Thanks P!

Week in Review for 07/01/10 Merry Christmas to all Orthodox Christians!

MATH
This week in Math we were working on decimal fractions. We had to decide what column the decimal number belonged to. For example, 10.563, the 3 is in the thousandths column. We also had a number line and we had to decide which numbers went in between two other numbers.

ENGLISH
This week in English we have been working on persuasive writing. We watched a video of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech and were focusing on how he made it persuasive. Another day we saw a slide show of some of the tools that help make writing persuasive. Some of them were logos, kairos, research and more!

INQUIRY
In Inquiry we have been learning about biodiversity which means living things that depend and rely on other living things. We watched a video of "Bill Nye the Science Guy" on biodiversity. We also had a special guest come into class who was an Egyptian Tortoise called Mr. George. Then we split into 4 groups and had to find out the history, habitat, future, and lifestyle of the Egyptian Tortoise. After that we split into groups again and told each other what we found out so we could present it to everyone else in the class.

Thanks K!

Trade DayReport

I have enjoyed term 1, as we had a very interesting topic which was called "The Global Marketplace". During trade day, each partner had a country, in my case it was Russia. We (my partner and I) started off with 16 units of currency and ended with 34 units of currency which was brilliant. My partner and me thought of first selling all our things and then buying all the things we needed. Everytime we bought an object or we sold one we had to record it on the balance sheet. At the end of the day, we had to work out whether we had more or less money than when we started. The Phillipines started off with 3 units and ended with 4 units of currency which was ok. They thought that bringing people to their country table was quite hard this was hard because no one wanted to listen to them as they thought they had nothing to sell to them. Egypt started with 6 units and ended with 25 units of currency which was excellent. They thought that finding all the things they needed to buy was quite hard as it seemed like no one had the things they needed.
over all me and my partener enjoyed it as we pretended to be real countries.

Thanks B
